My Design Philosophy

I take a flexible, learner-centered approach to instructional design. My process draws from the structure of the ADDIE Model, the rapid prototyping of the Successive Approximation Model, and modern Learning Experience Design practices to design learning experiences that are practical, iterative, and grounded in real work environments.

ADDIE provides the strategic structure for understanding problems and defining learning goals. SAM allows me to prototype and iterate quickly with stakeholders and subject matter experts. LXD ensures the final solution is designed around the learner’s real experience and work environment.

Depending on the project, I combine elements from all three approaches to create learning solutions that are structured, iterative, and learner centered.

  • The ADDIE model provides a structured framework for analyzing learning needs, designing instruction, developing content, implementing training, and evaluating effectiveness. I use ADDIE to ensure projects align with business goals and measurable outcomes.

  • The Successive Approximation Model emphasizes rapid prototyping and continuous feedback. I use SAM techniques to quickly test concepts with stakeholders and refine learning solutions before full development begins.

  • Learning Experience Design focuses on the learner’s journey and real world context. I apply LXD principles by researching learner needs, designing engaging interactions, and creating experiences that support performance beyond the course itself.

New Hire Program - Blended

Led the redesign of the Grievances and Appeals (G&A) New Hire program, transforming a fragmented 5-week onboarding experience for seven different roles into a streamlined 4-week blended curriculum focused on mastering the Pega SaaS platform and complex regulatory workflows. Partnered with operations leaders to develop 16 targeted courses, a final assessment, and a structured shadowing program with mentor guides. The redesigned program achieved a 58% knowledge gain, 97% average assessment score, and improved facilitator ratings from 4.6 to 4.9 out of 5.

About Me

Hi, I’m Jared.

I’m a Senior Instructional Designer and L&D strategist based in Mesa, Arizona, with over 15 years of experience turning complex operational, compliance, and performance challenges into learning solutions that drive real results.

I work at the intersection of design and strategy. I'm equally comfortable leading a full curriculum redesign, mentoring designers, partnering with senior stakeholders to shape learning programs, or rolling up my sleeves to build a polished eLearning experience from scratch. My background spans education, healthcare, financial services, and technology, giving me a practical, cross-industry perspective on how people learn and perform.

Outside of work I'm a lifelong builder and tinkerer. I enjoy multimedia projects, experimenting with new digital tools, and exploring coding, a hands-on curiosity that shapes how I approach design every day. When I'm not doing that, I'm with my family, camping, reading, or rewatching The Office.
